METRYPE

Privacy Policy

Your measurements stay on your device. Metrype does not require an account, upload your measurements, or collect the text in the app you are typing in.

1. About this policy

Xianzhe Chen develops Metrype. This policy describes the Metrype app for iPhone and iPad, its keyboard extension, and this website, including when you open this policy from the app. “We” refers to the developer.

Metrype formats length measurements and inserts them into a text field you choose. Its measurement and keyboard features process data locally; purchases, website visits, and any support messages you choose to send involve the separate services described below.

2. Data used on your device

Metrype uses the following data to provide its features. The app and keyboard share relevant data through an on-device shared container (App Group). We do not operate a server that receives this data.

  • Measurements: readings received from your Bluetooth distance meter, including the value, a local record identifier, and the time received. The keyboard saves up to ten recent accepted live measurements for reinsertion.
  • Meter configuration: the saved meter’s Bluetooth peripheral identifier, name, and brand, used to reconnect to the meter you selected.
  • Settings and insertion profiles: units, precision, format, profile names, prefixes, suffixes, and ending actions, used to format your input.
  • Daily allowance: a local date and transfer count used to apply the free daily live-transfer limit.
  • Subscription status: the app verifies Apple StoreKit transactions and shares a local snapshot of Pro entitlement and expiry with the keyboard.

3. Keyboard input and Full Access

The keyboard inserts the characters you select and formatted measurements into the active text field. It does not read, record, collect, or upload the surrounding text in the app you are typing in. It does not build a typing history or use your input for advertising or analytics.

The Bluetooth workflow requires Allow Full Access for the Metrype keyboard. Metrype uses this permission to connect to your saved meter and share local settings, measurements, and entitlement status with the containing app. Granting Full Access does not cause Metrype to upload your keyboard input or measurements. Manual keyboard input remains available without Full Access.

Metrype checks enabled keyboard language identifiers locally to determine whether its keyboard has been added and to show setup guidance. This check is not used to profile your other keyboards and is not sent to us. Text you insert into another app is handled by that app under its own privacy practices.

4. Bluetooth and your permission choices

Bluetooth permission is used to discover and connect to compatible distance meters and receive readings. Metrype does not use Bluetooth scanning to determine your location and does not request location, contacts, photos, camera, or microphone access for these features.

You can revoke Bluetooth permission in iOS or iPadOS Settings. You can also turn off Allow Full Access or remove the Metrype keyboard in keyboard settings. Doing so limits the associated Bluetooth or keyboard features; it does not prevent manual input while the keyboard remains enabled.

5. Purchases and subscriptions

Metrype Pro purchases, renewals, and payment processing are handled by Apple through the App Store. Metrype uses StoreKit transaction and entitlement information to unlock Pro, restore purchases, and reflect subscription expiry. This information is processed on your device and is not sent to a developer-operated purchase server.

We do not receive your payment card details through the app. Apple handles your App Store account and payment information under its own privacy practices. You can manage or cancel a subscription through Apple’s subscription settings. Deleting Metrype does not cancel an active subscription.

6. Sharing, tracking, and diagnostics

We do not sell or rent your personal data, track you across other companies’ apps or websites, or integrate advertising or analytics SDKs into Metrype. Measurements, saved meter details, insertion profiles, and keyboard input are not sent to us, advertisers, or meter manufacturers by Metrype.

Metrype uses a Bosch protocol framework to interpret supported Bluetooth meter messages locally. This is separate from advertising or analytics. Connection status and error diagnostics may appear in local system logs; Metrype does not send these logs to a developer-operated diagnostics service. Apple may separately handle system diagnostics according to your device’s privacy settings.

7. Retention and deletion

Recent measurement history is limited to ten entries; accepting a new entry replaces the oldest when the history is full. There is currently no separate clear-history control. Settings, profiles, saved meter configuration, daily allowance, and entitlement snapshots remain locally available as needed for the app’s features.

You can forget a saved meter from the app and delete custom insertion profiles. To remove the app’s remaining local data, delete Metrype from your device rather than using Offload App, which retains app data. We cannot remotely access or delete your on-device records.

Data inserted into another app is not removed when you delete Metrype. Device or iCloud backups, Apple purchase records, and any restored app data are governed by the relevant system or service; manage them separately. Metrype does not provide its own cloud synchronization service.

8. Website and policy page visits

Opening this website, including this policy inside an app browser, makes normal network requests to the website’s hosting provider. That provider may process your IP address, requested URL, browser information, request time, and security-related logs to deliver and protect the website. These requests do not include your Metrype measurements or the text in the app you are typing in.

This website does not add advertising cookies, analytics scripts, or external fonts. Its interactive measurement preview uses sample data held temporarily in browser memory and cleared on reload; it does not connect to a meter or upload the preview input.

The website is configured for Cloudflare Pages hosting. When served through Cloudflare, the provider’s processing and retention are described in its privacy policy.

9. Support messages and privacy requests

If you email support@metrype.com, we receive your email address and whatever information you choose to include. We use this information to reply, resolve your request, and maintain necessary support records. Email is handled through email service providers; please do not send passwords, payment card details, or unnecessary sensitive information.

Support correspondence is retained only for as long as needed to handle the request, maintain necessary support records, or meet applicable legal obligations. You can contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information you have provided, or to exercise other rights available under applicable law. We will assess and respond to your request under that law. Local measurements stay on your device and are not available to us.

10. Policy updates

We will update this page when Metrype’s privacy practices change and revise the effective and last-updated date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or request consent before introducing new data processing. Both language versions describe the same practices.
